Motorola Droid X Android 2.2.1 Froyo Update Hitting Soon?

Motorola Droid X, how we missed your presence and spirit in recent Android rumors and leaks! That only goes to show the Android nature of the mobile world when it comes to smartphones: you’ve been a very interesting rumor yesterday, a hot smartphone selling-out in stores today and a forgotten device tomorrow.

The Motorola Droid X is definitely one of the best smartphones out there, but the world has stopped talking (so much) about it in the recent months as we’ve been hit with various confirmed and unconfirmed news about various confirmed and unconfirmed devices: the HTC Desire HD and Desire Z (G2), the Motorola Droid 2 Global, the Motorola Droid Pro, the Motorola Droid Terminator / Olympus, the HTC Incredible HD, the Samsung Google Nexus Two, the Samsung Continuum and then lots of WP7 handsets ready to bring the fight to Android.
Motorola, on the other hand sold plenty of Motorola Droid X units, without mentioning actual numbers, so there must be a few million Droid X owners out there waiting for updates for the handset, especially with Gingerbread closing in.

While Android 2.3 might be made public in the coming days, it will be a while until Motorola and Verizon will be updating the Droid X to Gingerbread. In the mean time a minor update is coming out, Android 2.2.1 which should bring you various fixes and tweaks and the V Cast app store (Verizon’s own application portal). No official news regarding this Android 2.2.1 for Droid X build are available right now and the update itself is said to roll out at some point during November 23-29 but according to the image leaked above, at least one handset has been upgraded to Android 2.2.1, although the Droid X in question could have been photoshopped to 2.2.1 too. In case you do get the update before that timeframe do let us know!
